Baby Eyes

I'm fascinated by children, both the pleasant and unpleasant parts of childhood. I love how they are just so amazed by things, wanting to learn, grow, find out things that we as adults have come to see as ordinary and commonplace. The eyes of a child, while often not very old, are often the most open to the world.

I photographed my cousin's son Maddox while visiting her a while back. He's much older now, almost 3, but this photo really captured his innocence and charm.

Proper Introduction

I figured after I posted my first blog, I should take a moment to properly introduce myself and my tools. My name is Jenn, and I'm 28 years old. I live in the Twin Cities, MN.

I shoot Canon, a 30D at the moment. And yes, I am on the "list" for the Canon 5D Mark II. I also have a variety of lenses: Canon EF-S 60mm f 2.8, Canon EF 50mm f1.4, Canon EF 70-200 f2.8, Tamron 28-75 f 2.8., and a Tamron 17-35 f4.5-5.6. I have others on my wish list, but until then I make photos with what I've got.

I love my 60 f2.8. Seriously, I haven't tried a lens yet that is as sharp as this one. I had a shoot a couple of weeks ago that got me started on the hunt for the perfect wide angle lens. I'm happy to report that the best lens was one I already had! The 30D has a cropped sensor, so finding a good wide angle lens can be hard.

The shoot when great, it was a pinup/boudoir shoot that I did with a friend of mine. I wanted a certain type of lighting and I struggled with how to achieve it. I did about a full weekend's worth of internet searching, pouring over photos I had for inspiration and trying to work out how to recreate the effects I liked. I finally had a blink of "ah ha!" and found myself the most simple lighting I couldn't think of! Hahaha!

Because I'm a makeup artist as well, I got to do the hair and makeup for the shoot too. We did 12 setups, each was a month of a year. I'm still working on some of the shots, doing final touches. I wanted to post one of my favorites. It's July!

First Blog, how exciting!

Welcome to PhotoBlog Girl, my website of musings on photography. I am a photographer in trade, mostly portraits, weddings, boudoir and fine art. I dabble in event and product photography as well. I started this blog mostly as a somewhat educational too for myself, with the hopes that it would inspire others to try photography.

I love it. I don't use love all that often but photography for me is a high, a release, a passion and a must. I don't do photography because I am a tech head. I don't do it as a sole way to make money (although it is a perk). Lastly, I don't do it cuz it's the hip, in line of work (trust me, starving artist still applies in this discipline!). I do it because I can and it makes me happy.

I'll blog from time to time on here, post photos when I feel the urge. I also welcome questions, as that will get me thinking on a more regular basis about how I work and possibly even teach other a thing or two!
